It’s been a minute! Between Bill’s travels and life itself, we haven’t recorded in just over a month. We reconnect today amidst international crisis and domestic upheaval. Bill asks at one point, “What do we offer people to feel better, to make peace?” And the best I could come up with is learning to be with what is. Joanna Macy once said that we need to amass an army of Shambhala Warriors who are willing to hold the pain and sorrow of the world armed with justice, mercy, compassion, and love. I suppose this is what the work of Ordinary Life is all about. So join us as we talk through this and know that we stand with you in both heartache and hope.

ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

Summary of Ordinary Life for October 29, 2023

Dear Ones -
Thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to have some time off . We had a great trip and time traveling the Rhine River from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Basel in Switzerland. Then, we took the train to Bern to spend a few days with friends who live there.
Thanks especially to Wayne Herbert who covered the “communication” aspects of things.
I got to watch and hear the presentation that Dr. Holly Hudley made this week - “Where The Two Seas Meet.” Technology is wonderful and I am very grateful for it. And, for the people “behind the scenes - Tim Leatherwood, Lauren Cross, Joshua Rodkey, and John Watson - who make the magic happen. Thanks to all of you.
In doing spiritual teaching being relevant is a tricky matter. It involves not only what we “want” to hear but also what we “need” to hear. Couple this with the fast-changing circumstances in a world where so many things seem to be “coming apart at the seams” and the task is even more complicated. I thought Holly did an excellent job in meeting these challenges in her talk. The Israeli/Palestinian conflict was directly spoken to and set the stage for her leading us in a reflection of where we ourselves might be in our faith development. If you missed her talk, I encourage you to read it - or listen to it or watch it when it is up on the website.
Both the text of her talk and her presentation slides are on the Ordinary Life website.
Our podcast, “In Between,” can be accessed through the Ordinary Life web site.

WEEKLY PODCAST | In Between.143
Today we revisit and reflect on the Enneagram experience with Suzanne Stabile. I could not attend the workshop on Saturday, but I loved listening to her “interview” with Bill Sunday. What a witty, open, engaging person who seems to have (literally) all of our numbers!!! I thought it would feel both exhilarating and terrifying to sit directly across from her the way Bill did. The enneagram stirs us up - in both positive and complex ways. I suppose this is not unlike any “self-knowing” process. Learning about ourselves, we feel the urgency to hide and to be seen. Putting words to it can feel very validating and liberating. I bought the audio version of Suzanne’s book, The Path Between Us to read up on what I missed out on!
The moral of this podcast is: If you don’t do your personal work, you won’t become the person you were born to be.
Thank goodness Bill has given us a path inward.
